There is a wide range of car insurance options in the UAE. From the most basic liability-only insurance to comprehensive plans that provide every possible benefit, the general rule is you get what you pay for. However, even if you go for a mid-range policy, you can still add a few optional benefits to most motor insurance plans at a fixed cost. Here are the options commonly offered by UAE car insurance companies:

Car Hire

Car rental is the most frequently offered optional benefit in the UAE. This option means the insurer will cover the cost of renting a vehicle; the amount covered and duration depend on the car insurance policy you are considering. The car hire benefit comes at a fixed cost, and ranges from AED 150 to AED 450. Some insurers even give you the option to choose the duration of the car rental, from 5 days to over two weeks (of course the cost varies with the duration).

Roadside Assistance

This one is usually a no-brainer. This option provides recovery of the vehicle in case of a breakdown or accident. The price of this benefit typically ranges from around AED 30 to AED 40; compared to the car insurance premium you are paying, it makes sense to pay a little extra for something that could end up costing a few hundred Dirhams otherwise.

Personal Accident Cover

There are typically two types of benefits, personal accident cover for the driver and for passengers. As the name suggests, it covers the driver or passengers in case of an accident, up to a certain amount. The price of personal accident cover can range from as little as AED 60 to over AED 120. Some car insurance companies will also give you the option of specifying the number of passengers you want to cover, at a rate of AED 30 per passenger.

Geographical Coverage

Many car insurance companies cover the UAE and Oman under their standard plans. Most insurers also offer GCC-wide cover as an option. It tends to be quite costly however, usually ranging around AED 500.

Windscreen Cover

This option is not as common, but some car insurance companies do offer cover if your windshield or window is damaged. This can be at a cost of as little as AED 10! This is definitely a valuable option to consider; eventually something or someone will accidentally damage your windshield or windows.

Dent Repair

This option is rarely offered in the UAE, but is an important car insurance benefit. Dent repair pays for paint-less dent removal for your vehicle.
